Heroes Thought

So, I had a crazy thought last night about Heroes. It just came to me as I was starting to doze off for the night. This may contain spoilers, so highlight below to read:

Mohinder’s dad is pictured on the back of the book that he authored. They chose a fairly recognizable actor for that shot, and that got me to wondering if he is really dead. So, let’s assume that he’s not. Maybe he staged his death or reported news of his death to get his son to come to New York. Regardless, we never saw a funeral, a body, an obit, or any other evidence that his father is really dead. Going further down this line then, I started to wonder where he is, and here’s the kicker: he’s Sylar.

What??? I know that’s your first reaction, but think about it for a minute. Mohinder’s dad has been obsessed with this genetic theory for as long as anyone can remember. He’s written a book about all the possibilities and odds, and he apparently “discovered” patient zero. Suppose that patient zero is himself. He triggered the change in himself and created Sylar a la Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or The Incredible Hulk (if you want a superhero reference). He’s already demonstrated a collection of powers (telekinesis, possible mind control, possible phasing/flight/super speed) that could be result of experimentation. If we accept that this theory may be true, then we understand how Sylar has the same map in his apartment and the phrase “forgive me” starts to have a little more depth. He wants forgiveness for awakening the demon. It also fits with the circumstantial evidence of Sylar calling when he was not home. He could only leave a message because he is calling himself.

It’s a classic dual identity that appears in all superhero stories, but with a little more psychological twist to ground it in reality. And don’t forget that the whole “your father was killed by a young Jedi named Darth Vader” ruse worked well for a whole generation of movie-goers.

So where does this leave the other characters? Unknown. But it may cast Mr. Bennett in a different light. Suppose that our perspective is just a little off right now and that he worked with Mohinder’s dad. He’s seen what Sylar can do and he’s fearful that they all will turn evil. So he wants to stop them before they go bad. Based on the scenes from next week, he and his associate from the bar have captured Matt Parkman, so maybe that dialog will answer some more questions.

Let me know if you think I’m totally off my rocker here.

Very interesting theory. I have to say it seems to work.
I just want to know how cheerleader girl pulled the stick out of the back of her head when she was supposedly dead. I mean if she's laying there on the autopsy table "dead", how do her arms work well enough to yank a sharp tree from the side of her neck/head in order to heal and revive herself from death's door? Explain this to me.

Well, and to add to Melissa's theory how is she going to explain this at school? She came back from the dead.I like your theory Michael but I still don't know what to think of the cheerleader's dad.. He is creepy to me.

Have you been watching Jericho? I am really liking it. And Bubba got us last season of Eureka and we have also been watching it. It is good and different from the norm.

I have been watching Jericho, Windy. It is really good. When I get a good theory working, I'll post something on it.

As for Claire. I don't think she pulled the antler out of her head. She was incapacitated. At first I thought it was the ME, but then on second thought, wouldn't the ME have freaked if Claire woke up just after the antler was removed? This leads me to believe that the ME was not there (possibly unconscious) and to theorize that it was probably Mr. Bennet that removed the antler.

It doesn't resolve any potential issues with her explaining the situation to psycho, raper dude or any of her schoolmates, though.

ok, few quick questions....Michael, how come you are the only person who thinks that was an antler in her head, unless you read that somewhere? I was with Windy and Melissa on the whole "it's a stick" thing because it looked to me like she fell on a log, not a deer.
Also, I thought it was the medical personnel who pulled it out of her head also, only to quickly realize she was alone in the room, or so it seemed. Also, I have problems with the whole going back to school thing too. But I am thinking that if they were already at the point of autopsy they would have also already notified her family of her death, which would lead to even further complications, not to mention the fact that her dad is super creepy to me too.
ok, I didn't like Jericho last night but it is the only one I've seen and I apparently missed the first 3 episodes, but it was too much hospital drama for me. I was however interested in the African American male and his family...the whole idea of there being some sort of "traitor" during a catacylsmic (sp?) event got me hooked. I am not sure what to think about that.
also, I can't keep up with characters names as well as you, so I think you must be reading some blogs about them, I mean we have already theorized that you don't really work anyway.....hahahaha
you know I love you!

Antler? What the crap? I'm with Caci, why would you assume it was an antler unless you read that somewhere. And as for who pulled it out...there was noone else in the room to have done it but herself. It showed her coming back to life and then panned backward for us to see her chest wide open and her freaking out. I think they'll have to do some slick work to fill in all these holes.

Quit freaking out! It just looked like an antler to me. Which I thought was kind of weird because I didn't see any deer around there either. I haven't read anything about it one way or the other.

As for the character names, I have to look them up on IMDB most of the time because I can't remember them either. It's just easier to write character names, though, than say such and such person that looks like this or that. That just gets confusing.

I still disagree, Mel, with your idea that she pulled the OBJECT from her head on her own. Her eyes were grayed out like she was in some almost dead state. I think if she could've removed it herself she would've done it long before they started an autopsy. I really think it was probably Mr. Bennett. After they notified the family, he made his way to the morgue, did something to get the ME out of his hair (knocked out or distracted), pulled the OBJECT out of Claire's head, and then hid himself because he still doesn't want Claire to know that he's aware of her powers.

I watched next weeks trailer again last night and saw that whomever pulled it out had surgical gloves on....so you're right it wasn't Claire. You're probably right about it being Mr. Bennett. Can't wait to see what's next.

what? you don't want to say, "the guy with the really dark hair, that was talking to the guy with the kind of dark hair right before that blonde girl (not the older one--the younger one)walked by with the dark skinned guy that wears funny glasses." what's wrong with that description?!? huh? I am totally following that whole thing!

I just want to know who drank the last Coke...I thought I had it hidden well in the frig, but it's gone!!!!!

Melissa said...

sorry mom...it was me. you know i can spot a coke from a mile away...in this case about 1000 miles.
caci, can i just say you've had me rolling everytime i read your reponses.

Michael, I caught a possible glitch in your theory about Sylar. Well, the first thing is that on IMDB it says that the actor playing the professor is only in 2 episodes and on the phone conversation you can clearly hear a click where someone is picking up the phone and the professor has an accent and Sylar doesn't. Now they might just have me fooled but I have another theory that it could possibly be the brother running for congress.

[For Caci's benefit, I'll use no names in this post]

oooohhhh....good call, younger cousin from Tyler that married my brother-in-law's friend. I think the older brother that wears ties all the time is a good possibility, too. We know he's in contact with the apparently evil mob boss who wants something from the cam girl/online porn star with really high heels, and we know that he supposed to come back from a ten point deficit in the polls to a landslide victory.

How's that short sibling from the little town just off that big freeway in the eastern part of a really large state that has a panhandle?

thank goodness Heroes comes on tonight so we can keep this incredibly long comments page going.

I'm doing great! Michael, love your post, I followed EVERY bit of that one. I do better with no names.
Lissa, I am glad I could make you laugh, cause personally I thought it was a bit funny myself.
I am also quite intrigued at how many comments this one post has generated. Let's see what happens after tonight's episode!

Does anyone continue to get even more freaked out with each new week? I don't know about y'all but the music and the eyes, and the all around creepiness just gives me the heebie jeebies! Yet, I can't stop watching.
Now, I'm completely baffled! Japanese boy approaches the younger, non-political flying boy who apparently is destined to have an unrecognizable scar; to tell him (using perfect english) that he has a message for him from the future. Did I forget the part about the japanese boy carrying some sort of samurai sword on his back? What the crap?
And can I just say the mute, colored man is doing an excellent job at freaking me out! Could he be Sylar? I don't really think so, but if anyone is creepy enough to be Sylar....it's him!
Hmmm, what else? Oh, yeah....the genius boy and his two moms, ("Nikki and Frikki")as Jimmy has appropriately named them. FREAKY!
I don't know what is going on, but these stupid people have me hooked!

Caci said...

totally agree, Lissa! I kind of was thinking that the man with the blurred out face until he got close to the "policerman" (as Annalisa says the word) was Sylar. The eyes are TOTALLY creepy. I guess we know now why cheerleader girls death was not reported to her parents so they are clueless.....or is her dad? dum dum dum (that's music)
