Finally, a new episode of Heroes to write about. It seems like it’s been forever since the show went on hiatus, so I was really surprised that my expectations had not built up to a point as to make this latest episode a disappointment. On the contrary, I really enjoyed it, and I felt like it covered a lot of ground. Highlight below to read more:
I still don’t see much point in the Niki/Jessica character. As impressed as I was that she snapped a guard’s baton like it was a toothpick, I still felt relieved when she got doped, put in a straightjacket, and tossed in a padded cell. Too bad she’s not dead.
What’s the deal with D.L., though? Why is he still bringing Micah around? For that matter, why is he bringing himself around to see Niki? The woman tried to kill him, and for all he knows (actually, he even implied it) she’s just plain crazy. That doesn’t really seem like a very safe environment for either him or his kid. I’d run like the wind, if it were me.
Claire obviously didn’t forget what happened, and now she’s getting fearful of HRG (Mr. Bennett aka Horn Rimmed Glasses). Good for her. And I really enjoyed the fact that she got to have a little conversation with the Haitian. Seems like he might be trying to subvert the efforts of HRG, though, so she better be careful. I think she’s just a pawn to him that can be used against HRG. Finally, I thought it was great that Claire started over with Zack and that he knows her secret again. Hopefully, he’ll keep it this time around, too. I just wonder if HRG knew that Claire had enlisted Zack to video her powers the first time around, what makes us think that he doesn’t know this time as well. And will that be dangerous for both of them?
HRG himself alluded more this week to the fact that he’s working for someone else. We just need to figure out who it is, and how do they know so much? Of course, as was revealed in his conversation with Mohinder, it seems that Chandra knew more than they did. So, who else is on the list, and what does HRG want to do with it?
Next up, Matt knows that HRG is up to something. I don’t really understand why the SWAT team couldn’t find any secret rooms, though. Seems like when they were looking at the blueprints and planning their assault, they would have noticed either a big difference between the physical footprint of the building and the plans or they would have seen the plans for the room. Unless it’s underground, but it’s always seemed to be on the ground level in past episodes where they’ve shown HRG and Eden entering.
Speaking of Eden. Sylar killed her at the paper factory, so why was her body found outside of Ottawa or Ontario or wherever they said in Canada? How did HRG manage to get her body up there to dump it and make it look like a suicide? And once Sylar killed Eden, he had her power and her gun, so how did HRG get him back in his cell and doped up on all those drugs?
Peter finally woke up, but I still don’t understand exactly what the deal is there. He’s trying to get to Nevada, which makes me think that either he believes he’s going to explode anyway, so he wants to be in the desert when it happens, or he knows that Ted Sprague is in the desert and he wants to find him. I’m betting on the former since his dreams never showed Ted. What’s the deal with the bum on the street, though? I get that he’s invisible, but why does Peter think that he can help?
And one more thing. What the heck was Ted doing in the desert anyway? Is he trying to learn to control his powers? Or his trying to learn to increase them?
And now everyone’s favorite: Hiro. They’ve made it to New York, and Hiro’s English is getting much better. I love the way that they worked in the painting of him with the dinosaur without having to time travel, and I’m glad that we finally found out what the symbol that keeps showing up everywhere means: Godsend. The question now becomes, how did it get on the sword? It seems to be tied to the heroes in that the Haitian wears it around his neck, Jessica has it tattooed on her shoulder (but Niki doesn’t, go figure), Isaac paints it, etc. So why is it on an ancient sword? Is it some sort of time travel paradigm where the symbol is on the sword because it’s a sword for Hiro, but Hiro ends up leaving it in the past to protect it or something? And is the guy that wielded it in the past also a hero? Or was that guy our Hiro but he just hasn’t traveled back to live that part of his life yet? Or maybe, and this is really reaching, that guy is Mr. Linderman, and he has the sword because it’s really his and it helps lengthen his gift of long life. Am I way out there now?
It was pretty cool, though, that Hiro, Isaac, Nathan, and Simone are all together now. Nathan is still trying to hide his power, but I didn’t get much bad guy vibe from him in this episode. I think he really wants to help Peter, and I think that he’s starting to understand that he and Peter are not the only ones with abilities. Simone sure seemed to turn around quickly, too, when Hiro started telling his and Ando’s story. Guess it sucks to be Peter right now because he just got dropped like a hot biscuit.

Well, I have to say I was so excited about last night's episode I could hardly contain myself.....they didn't let me down.
First, I don't think you were aware of the little sneak peak they offered during "Deal or No Deal" last night. The little blip introduced a new hero, for lack of a better name we'll call her cybergirl. Apparently, she meets up with Ted in the desert and wants to join him in getting the bad guys that got to them (she has the two little marks on her lower neck) or in her words, "I'll find them and you'll nuke them." Pretty cool, I thought. I am referring to her as cybergirl, because she has the power to access the internet and track down information in her head. She was chatting online with Ted with no computer and from right outside his door. Pretty sweet! Anyway, just thought you should know that you missed that important detail.
As for Ted, I do think he is in the desert to somehow gain control over his power.
I would like to go on the record as the one who called the "absorbing to many powers" thing for Peter in the last episode. So, his gift is not really mimicry, but the absorbtion of others gifts. In my opinion, Peter is crucial in saving the world, because he is the only one that can beat everyone at their own game so to speak. I mean, the kid has come into a crapload of powers by now and has absorbed them all.....once he gets control over all of them he will be unstoppable.
I'm with you, I could take or leave the Nikki and Jessica characters....they don't seem to crucial to the whole plot of the show.
Hiro is awesome, as always! He really makes the show! I loved it when he saw Nathan last night and said, "Flying man!"
Nathan is showing his softer side these days. I think he was the skeptical one, but is now seeing the pieces all come together and realizing he will have to step up to the plate and help his brother.
In the last episode we saw the Haitian in Claire's room appearing to take her memory like all the rest, but in fact going against BRG and telling her to keep the secret. That seems pretty ballsy on his part to trust her to keep that secret! He must really know that she is capable of pulling it off.
I'll try to write more later, but I need to get off for now.
P.S. Cybergirl knowing about Ted makes me think that she has access to "the list" in her head.
You are right. I had no idea that there was a new hero introduced during "Deal or No Deal," so I totally missed that. Based on your comment it sounds like she has some kind of control over computers or technology of some kind. Pretty cool. And maybe she does have the list in her head, but surely the list didn't say that Ted was in the Nevada desert. I would think that it would list his home address somewhere near where Matt first found him.
As for Peter, I hear what you are saying, but I still don't think we've seen any evidence of him keeping the powers of others once he's out of proximity to them. He can't fly on his own, he can't heal himself on his own, he hasn't displayed any ability for telekinesis. I still think that he just mimics when they are close, and that he'll end up close to Ted and won't be able to control the massive amount of energy that Ted is working up since he won't be practiced at it like Ted will be.
Well, in the little sneak peek Ted was on his computer and I think that is how she tracked him down.
As for Peter, he has proven to do things on his own....he is dreaming the future, which I believe was the gift of that old man he was watching in hospice, Simone's father. Also, in the Homecoming episode he popped his leg back into place a good time after Claire had already left the seen....it was right when the police had pulled up and were arresting him. I saw it the first time, but confirmed it a few weeks ago when it was showing the rerun episode. He does absorb the powers, I just don't think he understands it all yet. I am holding to that theory, because it has shown to be true in the dreaming the future, and healing himself. If you still have the homecoming episode go check it our for yourself. You could probably pull it up online. Also, remember from early on Simone was talking about her father dreaming things....Peter, before he knew he could fly was sitting with him everyday. While sitting with the man, was also the first time he dreamed that he could fly. Later, when we discovered what happened to Nathan's wife and the car accident, Peter told Nathan about his dream....that is how Nathan found out that Peter knew he could fly. He had dreamed about the accident.
The dream about the car accident and all the recent dreams have been after Simone's dad's death.
One more thing. Nathan told Simone last night when she came to see Peter in the hospital that the last thing Peter said to him was that he felt like he was absorbing too many powers! I'm sorry, but I do believe I'm right with this one!
We shall see. :)
We shall?....We have! :)
I'm surprised you didn't have something to say about HRG and his ability to be in multiple places all in the same episode - which appears to cover the span of a single day. Or, about his ability to get to those places as quickly as he does.
Last night he was in the kitchen with Claire and took off his glasses and when he put them back on he was at the paper factory looking at Sylar. Granted that could be all about the filming but later in the episode he was at the paper factory then in Mohinder's apartment in what appeared to be a fairly short period of time. I am wondering if he has the ability to teleport like Hiro. This would offer an explanation as to how Eden's body ended up in Canada.
BTW - there are videos on the Heroes' site about 'cybergirl' and another about Nikki's future.
Don't have time to write a lot, but I agree with Lissa about the absorption of powers....and Peter did use that phrase. I remember talking with Lissa last season and we both said (she did 1st!) that we thought Peter would blow up because he would absorb too many powers. I am hoping that Peter isn't trying to avoid Ted, and thus actually taking himself closer to him. I LOVE Hiro...it was hilarious when Nathan asked him to "keep it down" so he lowered his hand (Flying Man)! I am thinking that when they come back to Matt he won't be able to read his wife's mind...I am not sure why I think that, but it was weird how they just cut off that so quickly....like if he can read her mind she will believe him and it will save her marriage, and if he can't she will pack up and leave. I think that Jessica is useless and I am still not sure why she is even on the show...I hope they show something that makes her have more value to me....also, why would she be a godsend? She is the one with the godsend mark. That is weird too. Ok, that is all I have time for now...or really brain cells!
it's true you should go to the heroes website and watch the video from last night's episode with the commentary on...it is really good. It just came on automatically for me when I got on the page....haven't found the info on cybergirl yet, though
nevermind, I just had to scroll down the page a little more to find it!
